The Brief:
The brief for this styling project was “Modern Farmhouse”; the client wanted the kitchen cabinetry to be the hero and our styling needed to enhance the already gorgeous timber and hardware chosen for this kitchen.
The Process:
This project had a super quick turnaround, so I knew that whatever I designed for the space had to be sourced locally and be readily available - there was no time to allow for shipping.
I started with sourcing imagery and created a mood board which featured the textures and colours I believed would meet the client’s brief. I also ensured that I could source these pieces locally so I wasn’t presenting a concept that would not be achievable in the short time frame.
In a styling job like this, the sourcing and collating of imagery and ideas into a client brief is actually what takes the most amount of time. Ensuring that I have hit the brief when it comes to the look and feel of a space, along with pieces like furniture or decor, art work and greenery, takes a significant amount of time. I like to think of it like a history paper; most of the work is in the gathering of information, references and resources. The actual writing of the paper takes the least amount of time when compared to the preparation.
Once I presented my mood board and products list to the client, they were able to give me the green light and I was able to start sourcing!

The Photoshoot:
I always love photoshoot day! It’s when everything comes together and it’s always such a bonus when you are working with amazing clients like The Maker and Crib Creative!
While Crib Creative was setting up her gear, I spent around 20 minutes setting up my styling props. Yup - VERY quick styling session as the owner of the property needed us to be in and out quickly.
Both the photographer and I knew exactly what needed to be photographed as the client had been very clear in what their priorities were. This always makes it much easier as a stylist as then I can really deliver what the client wants! I therefore focussed on the parts of the kitchen I knew would be featured in photos.

What do you think?!
I think my styling met the brief perfectly and really allowed for the kitchen cabinetry and hardware to “sing” while also injecting texture and warmth. The pop of green in the stools and the blue in the ceramics added interest while the texture in the pottery married well with the tones of the cabinetry.
This was a great project and I really enjoyed working in this space - the colour of the cabinetry is chef’s kiss!
